I don't have a good idea… part 2
The Israelites were waiting…and waiting. A promised land, so close and yet so far away. Earlier in the week, I wrote about prayers not be being answered in the speed that I wanted. Throughout the Bible, we are given illustrations about God’s people waiting, the Israelites being one example. What I have been reminded about this week when I think about this story is that despite the waiting, God was present. He cared and loved his people, providing all that they needed: shelter, protection, and food to name but a few. While the Israelites were wandering around waiting for the promised land, there were times of rest and battle.
It must have been hard and it can be hard for us too, Having faithful Christian friends around you to care for you and encourage you when things are tough can be invaluable. I can’t stopping thinking of the image of Moses having his arms held up by Aaron and Hur sharing the load and supporting him.
“When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up – one on one side, one on the other – so that his hands remained steady till sunset.” (Exodus 17v12)
Heavenly Father, thank you for the church family at HTR, thank you that we can be supported by our church family in times of need. Help us to love one another well, to seek out those who need care, encouragement and support. In Jesus name, Amen
