Living Waters - part 2

If you read my blog in May last year you may remember that I was diverted from talking about living water by the tragic events in Gaza. So, I thought I would have another go, particularly as I seem to be spending a lot of time in the early morning or late evening watering my allotment and trying to avoid the heat that we are having at present. And yes, so far so good, my choice of tomato plants seems to be paying off, no sign of the dreaded blight that wiped out my entire crop last year, praise God.

I Googled living water and up popped adverts for water coolers and these rather strange entries:

What is living water vs bottled water?

All water that is free of dangerous chemicals and harmful bacteria is beneficial to your health, but living water offers something extra. Living water is unprocessed water sourced directly from nature, with all of its natural benefits intact. 29 Jul 2016

And

How do we get living water?

To get Living Water, get into your spacecraft and fly into space. Engage your pulse engines and you'll eventually get a message indicating an incoming anomaly. Hit the brakes and you'll be greeted by a giant creature (we won't spoil it here). Speak to the creature and choose 'Request Sacrifice'. 20 Feb 2020

Reassuringly there were references to scripture as well. So, what is Living Water for us as Christians, what are the benefits and how do we get it?

I love the dialogue between Jesus and the woman at the well, in John 4 :10-14, it answers these questions perfectly, although she struggles to see it.

Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.” “Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did also his sons and his livestock?” Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Then in John 7:38 Jesus says it directly again “Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them.”

Jesus is saying it’s simple, believe in me and you will receive the living water I have to give to you. Let’s not complicate our faith, lets’ take the simple route, believe in Jesus and we can have this life-giving, thirst-quenching, reviving living water, for free.

"For the Lamb at the centre of the throne will be their shepherd; ‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’ ‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’” Revelation 7:17
