Resurrection Hope and Power

Resurection Hope

With great power, the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all’ Acts 4:33

The resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after His death by crucifixion is the foundation of our Christian faith. I often reflect on what Jesus did on the cross, but it occurred to me recently that I don’t focus enough on His resurrection.

The resurrection is such an exciting and powerful part of Jesus’s story and it gives us hope that goes beyond the grave. In 1 Peter 1:3 it says, ‘In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead’ In this broken world, we experience pain and grief but we don’t have to go through it alone or without hope. Jesus is alive and victorious. He is our living hero, not a dead one, and He has promised to be with us until the end of time.

Not only does God give us a resurrection hope, but we also have the power of the resurrection in us! Paul tells us in Romans 8:11 ‘the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you.' His spirit sets us free,  transforms us and equips us to be overcomers in this world and the next. I love the song by Elevation Worship called ‘Resurrecting’ and in particular this part:

By Your spirit, I will rise
From the ashes of defeat
The resurrected King is resurrecting me
In Your name, I come alive
To declare Your victory

I want to grow in my understanding and experience of the power of the resurrected King, resurrecting me. I hope to start living a more victorious life, do you?

Let’s pray: Almighty God, thank you that you have redeemed us and that we can live in the hope and the power of the resurrection of your son, Jesus Christ. Empower us to be overcomers who can testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ and declare Your victory. Amen
