Jesus, our living hope

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure. Hebrews 6:19

I’m sure that nearly all of us have had at least one of our worldly hopes dashed recently. Whether it was who we could have around the table for Christmas dinner; seeing a dear relative; having a short break or a longer holiday; or simply being able to invite a friend in for coffee. The list of losses and disappointments goes on and on. And then there are the ongoing difficulties and hardships associated with home schooling; more time on furlough at home; the anxiety of having to go out to work. It’s easy for these things to take a grip on our minds and to feel overwhelmed. In these times, where do we turn for peace?

The bible is full of evidence of God’s compassion for us. He reaches down to save us through the gift of his son, Jesus. With this ultimate and perfect act of love and mercy, God gives us true hope. In the book of Hebrews this hope is compared to an anchor that can hold us firm through the stormiest of times.

Let’s use this God-given hope to make us courageous and peaceful in the face of uncertainty, so that we can reach out and help others who are struggling.
