Be still
Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be
thankful. Colossians 3:15
It’s so easy to forget in the busyness of our day that we can be still and access the presence of God and experience His peace at any time.
I was recently preparing for a busy day ahead with lots of important things to achieve and I was feeling anxious. My to do list was whirling around my mind but I sat down briefly, took a breath and glanced out the window. At that moment, the Holy Spirit reminded me of a line from a worship song that I had not sung in years ‘Be still for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One is here’. As it seeped through my thoughts, I repeated the line out loud, over and over, and felt the overwhelming presence of God envelope me and give me His peace. I was so grateful and reassured and, in that moment, I was reminded that God really is all around us and we can enter into His presence and receive His peace. I pray that you will know this too, right now, and that you can, for a moment, be still, take a breath, and say those words and experience the peace of God.
I’ve hung on to that moment over the days since and I find myself repeating the line of the song and each time I feel myself receiving His peace. As I read scriptures about the peace that Jesus wants to give us and the promises he has made to us, I’ve realised how I settled for less than I should. I will share what I’ve found in the next part but for now, I would like to leave you with the rest of the words of the song:
1.Be Still, For The Presence Of The Lord
The Holy One Is Here
Come Bow Before Him Now
With Reverence And Fear
In Him No Sin Is Found
We Stand On Holy Ground
Be Still For The Presence Of The Lord
The Holy One Is Here
2.Be Still, For The Glory Of The Lord
Is Shining All Around
He Burns With Holy Fire
With Splendor He Is Crowned
How Awesome Is The Sight
Our Radiant King Of Light
3. Be Still For The Glory Of The Lord
Is Shining All Around
No Work Too Hard For Him
In Faith Receive From Him
Be Still For The Power Of The Lord
Is Moving In This Place
Let’s pray: Father God, thank you that your presence is all around us and you bring us peace. That especially in
busy and difficult times your peace is available for us and you sent your Holy Spirit to minister to us. Teach us
Lord, how to let the peace of Christ rule our hearts instead of the anxieties that our day to day life often brings.
Amen
